Newsflash

Writing is not a glamorous job...in fact, nothing could be more unglamorous than a coffee cup littered desk, a bleary eyed person with their hair sticking up in a million directions, and a tattered sweatshirt for a robe.

What makes a writer? Most humans know the words of a language and the basic ability to create sentences verbally and on paper. So...why are we not all writers? Simple. Writers...are watchers of life who then want to convey what they see. Some people do this through a painting, some through the spoken word. Writers...love to put what they see into the form of the written word. We like to tell a story you may have missed and give you the story with all the little details...sight, sound, smell, touch....using nothing but simple words. Unlike an actor, we can not show you the expression, we must tell you in a way that your own brain creates the vision of the expression. We can not use paint to create the picture of a scenery to show you every rich color, but must again, give you the words to help you visualize the world we want you to see. We also, as writers have a great responsibility.

The Celts believed the power was in the spoken word. If you wrote it for others to read, you could no longer control who spoke the words and therefore had the power. For this reason, the Celts did not write, they passed the stories down orally to those they felt would use the words wisely. Those of us who write have a responsibility to understand we can not control who reads or speaks what we put into the written form. We must decide what damage can be done by our words. Reporters of life events should be able to report the facts and only the facts without infiltrating the words with their own feelings or beliefs. Writers of fantasy need to portray the story as fantasy and not fact. But we too, seek power with our written word-- the power to move the reader through thought and emotion. The desire for this power is what makes a writer.

What makes an Editor? Ahhhh....a Writer! Without writers who would Editors clean up after???

While academic education is important, the best education we can give ourselves as humans is gained by going out into the world and observing life. If we never leave the security of our box (our immediate environment) then we have no concept of the world outside the walls we place around us. Even if our travels take us no farther than a County or State near by, our eyes are opened a wee bit more each time to the world we live in.

Many people think because they have children they can not travel. This is not true. Children are some of the most adaptable creatures on the planet. A child who is exposed to other cultures and environments has a better understanding of people, the earths geography, and the history of man. These children form real impressions of others and tend to be more accepting and loving to those they share the earth with.

Amazing...so what? PDF Print E-mail

Amazing...so what? I picked this Joomla template because I love what the German designers do with them, and ...I liked the header, which I kept. It suits me. We are all amazing in our own ways. Each human has value and in some way, to some one, they are amazing. But, no matter how amazing someone thinks you are, or you think you are...keeping a bit of humility is healthy and important. If we get to the point where we think we are so absolutely amazing that we can treat others as if they are less important...then every little amazing thing about us ceases to exist. Be truly amazing. Treat everyone you know, meet, or breeze by, as if they too are special and amazing!
